New Paintings: Strange Garden and Sentience

Since coming home from Peru in May I have been busy busy busy. So many things have been in the works. From preparing for and executing another successful year at Oregon Country Fair, to the opening of my new tiny but beautiful art studio at The Haven in Portland, I’ve been elbows deep in all the hard work it takes to survive as a full time artist.

Although I haven’t had as much painting time as I could hope for (100% of my work time, please) I have still managed to finish, or nearly finish a handful of paintings. These are what I would consider small, the largest being 18x24 inches, and I feel like I’m just warming up for some big stuff in the near future. But first, here’s a look at a few of the new ones:

The Garden of Flowers and Dragons:
Acrylic on canvas
18x24 inches

This was the first thing I started painting when I came home from Peru the first time. It was started as a live painting at a small event in Portland…that was in January 2025, and it’s just now getting wrapped up. What does it mean? Well, I like to ask people first, what do you see?

Sentience:
Acrylic on board
14x14 inches

This painting was made without a clear concept or vision in mind before starting. I allowed it to evolve as I painted it, as I usually do. I like the result, it feels good and I could make up some philosophical stuff about it’s deeper meaning but honestly, I don’t know exactly what it symbolizes, apart from it being a testament of my own personal spiritual quest for self discovery. It’s a journey into the unknown; an answer to an unknown question, or is it the question itself?

Soooo, what's coming next, you ask? For one thing, I have a BIG new painting planned for Imagine that is 36x48 inches and will feature Coyote in an American Southwest landscape. Look close and you might find roadrunner in there, in the way way back. Or not. Here’s a look at some of the ideas for that painting I’ve been kicking around.

That’s all I’ll share for now. I also just finished building some new “I Am the Universe” light boxes. I shared about those in the previous blog post. Check that out if you’re interested, and let me know what you think of the new work. Prints will be coming soon!
