Over the last year my normal life has been very unregulated and I haven’t had a chance to get much work done in the studio. Last August I moved out of my apartment, put everything in storage and went to Peru for a total of 6 months, divide among two trips. That’s a whole separate story…

Since returning in mid May I have had a number of other big events to prepare for like Oregon Country Fair and the reopening of the Haven in NE Portland, and I wasn’t able to get any work done.

Now, I finally have my new work studio set up and functioning and I have been spending long hours there painting! It feels really good to have a place to call my art studio again and I’m excited to share some of the work that is coming out of it lately.

In addition to painting I’m also teaching art again and that feels good. Initially I’m just taking students one on one but will hopefully plan some workshops as well that will run multiple days in a row. It would be fun to rent out some beautiful location and make it a full-on retreat.

One more thing that feels exciting is that I’m in the process of moving from acrylics back to oils in the near future. I have a few unfinished acrylic paintings that I think I’ll convert to oils for starters. I find that starting a painting in acrylics for the establishing layers and then moving to oils works quite well in fact. That’s what I started doing when I was transitioning out of oils back in 2017. I could start a painting at a festival in acrylics and then bring it home to the studio and finish it in oils. It was the best of both worlds really. I can do a demo on that process eventually if you want to learn how that works.
