Making a Traditional Rawhide Rattle

I’m excited to share this new instructional video with you on how to make a simple rawhide rattle. Making rattles was a byproduct of my obsession with drum making. when I started buying whole hides and making my own own drums from scratch I found that I was left with a lot of smaller pieces of rawhide that I didn’t want to go to waste…so I learned to make rattles!

Rattles are a lot of fun and there’s so much room for creative choices in the way you create their form and decorate them. This video is just a starting point and offers a few suggestions, but I encourage you to go crazy and make up your own designs. Just have fun and don’t be afraid to try new things.
