This painting represents the 5th element of spirit. Within a living atmosphere, a new entity is birthed from the either, the hot gases of nebulous energy crashing together like the deep of an earthly ocean. Stars have their place too and flank this new geometric creature and give it their blessing, their guidance. At the very center beats a new heart.

This is the third painting in the elemental series, after earth and water. This actually started as air and became spirit at some point! I never really know what’s going to happen with a painting, but I’ve learned it’s best to stay open to the limitless possibilities and pay attention to how I’m feeling as I work through the creative process of each painting and listen.

At the time I was renting a house from a master woodworker and he helped me frame this painting. I designed the frame and he cut it out from large pieces of ancient cedar he had o hand. It was the perfect frame for this piece. Simple yet effective.
